Doodle Creek Q&A

Answers to the most common questions about our Goldendoodles and adoption process

About Our Goldendoodles

What's the difference between English and Olde English Goldendoodles?

English Goldendoodles are a cross between English Golden Retrievers and Standard Poodles, known for their calm temperament and stockier build. Olde English Goldendoodles are a unique three-way cross including English Golden Retriever, Standard Poodle, and English Sheepdog, creating an exceptionally gentle and intelligent family companion.

How big will my Goldendoodle puppy get?

Our Standard Goldendoodles typically range from 55-80 pounds when fully grown. English Goldendoodles tend to be on the larger side (60-80 lbs) while Olde English Goldendoodles can range from 60-85 pounds. Final size depends on the parents and individual genetics.

Are Goldendoodles really hypoallergenic?

While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Goldendoodles are considered low-shedding and produce less dander than many breeds. Most families with mild to moderate allergies do well with Goldendoodles, especially those with curlier coats inherited from the Poodle parent.

What colors and coat types do you have?

We have puppies in cream, light golden, medium golden, dark golden, red, apricot, chocolate, and black. Coat types range from wavy to curly. We can't guarantee exact adult coat type, but we can give you our best assessment based on the puppy's current coat at 8 weeks.

Health & Care

What health testing do you do on your breeding dogs?

All our breeding dogs undergo comprehensive health testing including hip and elbow dysplasia screening, eye clearances (CERF), heart clearances, and genetic testing for common Golden Retriever and Poodle health issues. We only breed dogs with excellent health clearances.

Do you offer a health guarantee?

Yes! We provide a comprehensive 2-year health guarantee against genetic defects. We also offer a 14-day health guarantee from the time you take your puppy home. Full details are provided in our health guarantee document.

How much grooming do Goldendoodles require?

Goldendoodles require regular brushing 2-3 times per week to prevent matting, and professional grooming every 6-8 weeks. Their coats are relatively low-maintenance compared to some breeds, but consistent care is important for their health and appearance.

Adoption Process

How do I reserve a puppy?

Start by completing our puppy application. Once approved, you'll be placed on our waiting list with a deposit. We match puppies to families based on lifestyle, preferences, and the individual puppy's temperament. You'll have the opportunity to meet your puppy before making the final decision.

What's included when I take my puppy home?

Your puppy comes with age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchip, health certificate, registration papers, puppy starter kit (food, toys, blanket), and our comprehensive puppy manual with care instructions and training tips.

Do you ship puppies?

Yes, we can arrange safe, professional puppy transport for families who cannot pick up in person. We work with experienced puppy transport services and can coordinate delivery to most locations across the USA. Transport fees vary by location.

What about the new USDA requirements for USA clients?

As of August 1st, 2024, all puppies imported from Canada to the USA must be a minimum of 6 months old. We offer two options: professional in-home training while the puppy waits, or extended socialization and basic training at our facility. We handle all the additional government paperwork required.

Training & Behavior

Do you offer puppy training services?

Yes! We offer comprehensive training programs including house training, crate training, leash training, and basic commands. Our qualified trainers can work with your puppy so you can enjoy the fun parts without the initial hard work. This is especially valuable for our USA clients who need to wait until 6 months.

Are Goldendoodles good with children?

Goldendoodles are known for their gentle, patient nature with children. They're large enough to handle enthusiastic play but gentle enough to be trusted with toddlers. Early socialization ensures they're comfortable with children of all ages.

How much exercise do they need?

Goldendoodles have moderate exercise needs. A daily walk, some playtime, and mental stimulation are usually sufficient. They enjoy activities like fetch, swimming, and hiking, but they're also content to relax with the family. They adapt well to their family's activity level.
